- Mold- These are microscopic fungi which thrive on animal and plant matter. These are known to cause allergies and can also cause infections in nails
- Nail bed- The layer of skin which is located just below nail plate
- Nail folds- the skin which supports and frames the nail
- Nail plate- The part of the nail which is visible
- Onchyomycosis- The name for toenail and nail fungus
- Subcutaneous layer- This is situated under the dermis and is a layer of connective tissue and fat which contains nerves and blood vessels
- Yeast- single celled group of fungi. They are generally harmless but they do cause infections in nails in some cases.
