  • Matrix- The growth which can be found at the center of nails. It is hidden under the cuticle
  • Mold- These are microscopic fungi which thrive on animal and plant matter. These are known to cause allergies and can also cause infections in nails
  • Nail bed- The layer of skin which is located just below nail plate
  • Nail folds- the skin which supports and frames the nail
  • Nail plate- The part of the nail which is visible
  • Onchyomycosis- The name for toenail and nail fungus
  • Subcutaneous layer- This is situated under the dermis and is a layer of connective tissue and fat which contains nerves and blood vessels
  • Yeast- single celled group of fungi. They are generally harmless but they do cause infections in nails in some cases.
